Abstract:
This
review analyses Nigeria's industrial-adhesive production, focusing on factors
that impact the local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises' (SMEs') ability to manufacture
high-performance adhesives. Despite diverse applications in key sectors, over
70% of Nigeria's adhesive demand is met through imports, highlighting gaps in
domestic capacity. Six main challenges hinder local producers: dependence on
imported raw materials, outdated technology, financial difficulties, and lack
of specialized human capital, unfavorable regulatory policies, and limited
market access Addressing these issues through improved raw-material sourcing,
technology upgrades, workforce development, regulatory reforms, and market
expansion could create a competitive local adhesives industry, reduce import
reliance, save foreign exchange, boost employment, and support economic
diversification and sustainable industrial growth
