Abstract:
Pyrolysis experiments were conducted to characterize pyrolysis oil from sawmill wood residues of three selected tree species (Gmelina arborea, Terminalia superba and Triplochiton scleroxylon). Pyrolysis was performed at 450, 500 and 550°C. The functional groups present in the pyrolysis oil obtained at different temperature conditions were identified using Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis. Chemical composition of the pyrolytic liquid was dominated by oxygenated compound like carboxylic and alcoholic groups resulting from the pyrolysis of the cellulose and phenolic and methoxy groups produced by pyrolysis of the lignin
