Brief History
The Forests and Forest Products Society (FFPS) was established in 2008 by academic staff in the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, under the leadership of Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape. The foundation members then reached out to colleagues in other Universities and the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN). At that formative stage, it was decided that the Society should organize biennial conferences to bring together scientists from forestry and related disciplines. Such conferences were to serve as forum for researchers to discuss and disseminate the results of their need-driven researches with a wider audience. Consequently, the Society had her maiden conference at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, from April 16 to 18, 2008. The theme was "Research for Development in Forestry, Forest Products and Natural Resources Management". During that Conference, the pioneer executive committee of the Society was constituted.
